Statement by Bettina Vollath

In its second year, the Styrian Culture Festival REGIONALE 2010 is to be staged in Liezen, offering that district the opportunity of presenting itself against a background of contemporary art and culture. Under its motto "On the edge of the centre", it is intended to trigger off a lively discourse between regional art and international creative influences. Hence, the REGIONALE 10 perceives itself as being a modern culture festival, promoting regional understanding and cooperation by means of cultural and artistic events and initiatives.
Today's society is one of growing disintegration in which values such as tolerance, acceptance and understanding between different groups and individuals are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. And that is exactly what REGIONALE 10 means to put its finger on, steering towards a forward-looking regional and supra-regional dialogue. Those art exchange processes are sure to become a permanent part of everyday life even after the REGIONALE 10 has closed.
Ladies and gentlemen, I do hope you join us in our anticipation of this exciting and absolutely top-notch Festival, a happening which is bound to play a leading part in the region and beyond.
